Family Art Day: All About Toys
Family Art Day: All About Toys is a chance for kids and their families to explore how to design their own toys and how to use toys in unusual and unforgettable artworks! The entire Westport Arts Center gallery space will be transformed into project stations for kids of all ages. You and your children will build, design, color and create unique works of art during a fun-filled day! In addition to the exciting day of creating, the finalists of our Fifth Annual Toymakers Competition will be interviewed by a panel of judges and winners will be announced.
Sunday, March 20, 11am - 1pm
$10 per child/Children under 2 and adults free

All Family Art Day kids and families are welcome to create as many of our projects as they can. Choose your favorite or make them all for a fun-filled day of art making.
Twisty Block Puzzle: Design four distinct puzzles on the sizes of three wooden blocks. Whether making abstract patterns or figures, kids will assemble their cubes together to create a twisting puzzle that allows them to mix and match the elements of each puzzle.
Do-It-Yourself Flying Saucers: Our young makers and designers will have a fantastic assembling an aerodynamic flying saucer that can fly and race without any batteries or electricity! Kids will design their saucer using high quality cardboard and drinking straws and decorate with a variety of materials including patterned tapes.
Make a Memory Game: Fun & games meets the fine arts as kids discover simple printmaking while creating their own colorful memory game. Students will make their own printed images on Styrofoam printing plates to devise a pictorial game that is unique to their imagination.
Upcycled Toy Mobile: Re-purpose old toys and toy pieces into a dynamic mobile using colorful yarn, string and cord. Add embellishments and sparkle to the toys you select to create a work of art perfect for hanging in your room!
Tiny Tots Corner:
A special group of projects for our tiniest artists, children are invited to create fun game-based projects that encourage pattern-making and use of fine motor skills. Great for child and parent to do together!
Colorful Spinning Tops: Decorate a circular piece of paper with lines, patterns and shapes then assemble it with a wooden skewer to create a spinning top that shows how colors will blend together when combined with motion.
Spring Lacing Card: Color, cut and decorate a spring creature or creation before threading yarn through a series of pre-cut holes. Not only does this fun project help your child's fine motor skills, but it also helps them develop visual perception all while having fun discovering arts materials.
