ArtSpeaks: Steven Certilman & Arianne Kolb
Arianne Faber Kolb, the curator of the exhibition Two Steps Forward, will talk with the collector Steven Certilman about his experiences collecting Cuban art for more than fifteen years. Certilman will discuss his mission to promote Cuban art, his evolving relationships with many artists, and the stories behind the works in the show. He will also address how the art world in Cuba has been impacted by the expanding cultural and economic exchange with the United States.
About Steven Certilman
Steven and Terri Certilman’s significant collection of contemporary Cuban art is the focus of the exhibition Two Steps Forward. Avid art collectors, the Certilmans have sourced pieces directly from the artists during frequent travels to Cuba since 1998 and have dedicated themselves to promoting the country’s artistic talent.
About Arianne Faber Kolb
Dr. Arianne Faber Kolb has a Ph.D. in art history and was a former curator of paintings and drawings at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles. Until recently, she was the Executive Co-Director of The Carriage Barn Arts Center in New Canaan, CT, where she curated numerous exhibitions, including Absolut Kuba! Cuban Contemporary Art from the Terri and Steven Certilman Collection in 2014. Her past experience includes working at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and at the Philip Johnson Glass House. Kolb's published work includes a book on Jan Brueghel the Elder, co-authorship of Getty Museum Paintings catalogues, as well as articles and exhibition catalogues on renaissance and baroque art and architecture. She has also recently published two children’s books: From the Saltbox to the Glass House and Waveny: New Canaan’s Treasure.
